adlershof.de: The EXPERI Project provides Impetus for Urban Mobility

Transport researchers call for a shift in perspective on the mobility transition to increase acceptance of restructuring measures.
Road traffic in many areas is characterized by congestion and noise. The high consumption of resources in today’s transport systems, such as the use of fossil fuels, is to be reduced through the mobility transition, thereby enhancing overall quality of life. The EXPERI project investigated how the mobility transition can succeed in cities. Scientists from the German Aerospace Center (DLR) participated in this research. Streets were temporarily redesigned to determine how to improve the quality of space for pedestrians and cyclists. As part of real-world experiments, three street sections in Berlin—located in Charlottenburg, Schöneberg, and Kreuzberg—were temporarily transformed into traffic-calmed areas for public use. (...)
