Sophia Becker is since 01.04.2022 vice president for sustainability, internal communication, transfer, and transdisciplinarity at the Technische Universität Berlin, as well as professor for Sustainable Mobility and Transdisciplinary Research Methods at the TU Berlin and research group leader for methods of transformative policy advice at the Institute for Transformative Sustainability Research (IASS).
In 2018, she initiated the junior research group EXPERI, which she led from June 2019 to March 2022. Before that, she worked as a mobility researcher (PostDoc) at the IASS Potsdam (2017-2019). She studied psychology in Münster and Paris and did her PhD under Prof. Dr. Ortwin Renn, Chair of Sociology of Technology, Risk and Environment at the University of Stuttgart (2013-2017). The dissertation on "Individuelles Rebound-Verhalten in der Pkw-Mobilität" ["Individual Rebound Behaviour in Car Mobility"] was published by Springer VS Verlag in the series Studien zur Mobilitäts- und Verkehrsforschung. At the University of California Berkeley, she worked as a visiting researcher at the Transportation Sustainability Research Center on the topic of car sharing and individual quality of life (2015).
Sophia Becker was among others a lecturer for environmental psychology at Leuphana University, Faculty of Sustainability (2012-2014). Since 2018, she has been a member of the scientific advisory board and supporting association of the journal GAIA, Ecological Perspectives for Science and Society. Sophia Becker's research foci include socio-technical transformation processes, sustainable mobility, individual behaviour change, mobility innovations (cargo bike sharing) and transdisciplinary research methods.
